Here at Cindy's Confections we offer several frequently asked questions posed to us
on a regular basis, interspersed with articles
for the purpose of educating the public
on the purchasing of a custom designed cake
and why they are priced as they are.

We are a small cake boutique with a passion for making
fabulous cakes for your very special occasion. Because of this we
place great importance on our relationship with every client and
want to be the right "fit" for you during the process. We invite you to

~ Are Your Cakes Fresh? ~
Yes.  All of our cakes are made fresh to order using Michigan products whenever possible.
 
~There is a Cake Style that I want but I don't see it represented on your site.  Do you do Specialty Requests?~
In most cases yes.  However, occasionally there are designs we cannot
or will not take on.  EMAIL us with your request and a picture
if possible to see if we can accommodate your order.
 
~ Do You Duplicate Cakes? ~
Sorry but no.  No two cakes are created equal and we are known for unique designs.
We will accommodate the elements you like into a custom design especially for you. 
 
 
~ Do You Do Naughty Cakes? ~
No, sorry.  We are a family friendly establishment.
 
 
~ What Do I Need to Know when Ordering a Cake? ~
When you meet with the cake designer, she will guide you through the process of every detail
of your cake design.  There are some things your decorator will need to know from you,
standard questions like:
“How many people are invited to the event?”,
“What is the budget for the cake?”,
“What color/style/shapes are you looking for?”
... things like that.  You may not have an answer before the consultation and that's okay. 
The designer will talk with you and find out what your preferences are
and guide you through the process to arrive at the cake design you desire. 
 
Before your meeting, you might think about: 
~ How many guests have you invited/ how many guests are you expecting? 
The decorator will need to have this number to determine the size your cake needs to be,
how many tiers you can have and what design will and will not work with this number.
 
~ Have you seen a cake design or designs you like? 
If so, bring these photos with you to the appointment.
 
~ Do you like round or square cakes?  Or a combination of both? 
How about another shape, something out of the ordinary? 
Here at Cindy's Confections, we specialize in the unique!
  
~ Do you like cakes stacked (cakes touching cake with no spacing between the tiers)
or do you like some separation/space between the tiers
(such as pillars or an illusion of florals between tiers?)  Or a combination of both?
 
~ Do you have a preference on flavor(s) of cake and what kind of fillings?
At Cindy's Confections, we do not charge extra for different flavors for different tiers
(with the sole exception of the flavors that are listed as incurring an extra cost already.) 
However, some flavors are available in season only. 
 
~  Is your reception going to be outside or in a non-air conditioned facility? 
This can make a difference in the types of cakes and icings that can be incorporated in your cake.
 
~ Is there a special color you would like to see in your cake design? 
If so, bring a sample with you that you can leave with the decorator. 
 
~ Are you considering flowers or a flower topper for your cake?  What kind of flowers?
Please note, here at Cindy's Confections we DO NOT utilize fresh flowers on ANY cake,
nor do we endorse this practice.  The hazards from using either poisonous flowers or
foliage and pesticides are simply not worth poisoning your wedding party.
We encourage brides to go with gumpaste flowers, which are food-safe
and can be saved forever as a momento of your grand occasion. 
 
~ What kind of topper will you have on the cake? 
Some toppers require a special base to be made so the topper can sit on top of the cake.
  If you have a ceramic or glass topper, bring it with you so the decorator can check the size and weight.  Sometimes the cake will require special engineering construction to be able
to support the weight of the topper.
 
 
~ How Much Will My Cake Cost? ~
Before we get into design and cost, let me ask you what you have in mind as far as a budget for the cake. Many people are unaware of the cost of custom designed cakes. We’ve had people try
to order a 6 foot tall Sylvia Weinstock cake or other they’ve seen on TVand then are
VERY surprised to find it will cost them more than the $100 they budgeted!
 
Because all our cakes are custom made fresh to the client's specifications and are not mass produced,
they are priced accordingly. Each cake is priced per project with servings and intricacy of design
dictating the price. Most cakes we make fall in the $4.00 and up per serving price range. 
Our prices reflect the highest quality of cakes with only the freshest and best quality ingredients.
As you can understand our prices are therefore non-negotiable.  We do, however, make
every effort to work within the client's budget and offer suggestions fitting that budget.

That's very simple, email us here and we'll see if your date is available
and set up a consultation with a tasting from there.

Learning Opportunities Do You Offer? ~
 
We have cake decorating classes, cookie decorating classes, and chocolate
classes available.  Please check our classes page for further information. 
 
We do not offer job shadowing but we DO have 3-hour private lessons available.
